Meet the Instructors

WMAF instructors are black belt trained and CPR & First Aid Certified. They receive continual training so they may uphold the WMAF mission of providing the highest quality Martial Arts and Fitness Training in a disciplined and professional environment.

Shihan Williams started his first karate school in Kentucky in 1979. Shihan moved to Loudoun County in 1990 and started the first karate school in the Ashburn area.  Shihan has produced numerous national and world champions.  Several students have become pillars of their community - becoming school teachers, doctors, lawyers, law enforcement agents, and officers in the military.

Shihan Clinton Williams is an eighth degree black belt, National Karate Champion, AAU Hall of Famer, Wrestling Hall of Famer, former United States Marine, and 11 years in law enforcement. He has more than 40 years of experience in martial arts and is the founder, President & CEO of Williams Martial Arts & Fitness for 30 years.




Karen Severo

Sensei Karen Severo began her training at WMAF in 1992 and began teaching shortly after at the Sports Pavilion in Ashburn. Sensei Karen currently manages the operation of the WMAF facility in Ashburn. She is very involved in all aspects of the company and is an invaluable member of the WMAF management team. Sensei Karen currently holds a third degree black belt.



Jerry Johnson

Sensei Jerry Johnson began his training with WMAF in 1994. Sensei Jerry currently holds a third degree black belt.



Liz Korson

Sensei Liz Korson began training at WMAF in 1994.  Sensei Liz has been involved in various WMAF programs since that time. She started teaching in 2003.



Vanessa Redd

Sensei Vanessa Redd has been training with WMAF since 2002. She earned her black belt in 2008, and began instructing at WMAF in 2010. In addition to teaching karate, Sensei Vanessa also works with students as a special education teacher. She holds a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Maryland.
